Mercury metal is not readily absorbed, and you can actually swallow a good bit of it and 99.9+% will pass though you without being absorbed, and in most cases you will not get enough to notice. But any and all soluble compounds of mercury are readily absorbed and highly toxic. Also pure mercury vapors are toxic as well, they can get absorbed through the lungs. There is a very long list of mercury compounds that are toxic, one of the most toxic is methyl mercury.
## What you just said is that "mercury" isn't easily absorbed [therefore, not very toxic] and many 'compounds' are toxic..which is true enough. The question is, how readily and under what conditions do toxic compounds form from a well stabilized amalgum? ..and, just how stable is your 'particular' amalgum? If you don't put enough nickel in stainless steel, it 'will' rust...just very slowly. If you use too much, it makes a lousy knife blade..but it won't rust. The difference in amount is a very small one. A very small mixing error could make all the difference in the world. Not all dentists are great dentists. Inci-dently..the dentists I have used always put a varnish like sealer and silver foil liner in the cavity before pressing the amaglum in. I have a GF whos' childhood dentist packed the amalgum on top of a cotton wad. Who knows what else he didn't do right. [She's a little crazy...maybe that's why? She's a lawyer, but found out that you can't sue a dead dentist.] I'm not saying that you don't have a problem that filling replacements can solve. But more people than not don't have the problem and there can be many reasons for it other than a simplistic statement that amalgum is always dangerous. "Who" is saying these things are just as suspect as those who vehemently defend the practice regardless of how well executed. Both have good $$$$ reasons to bend the truth into an all or nothing affair. Think on it.. Health problems are traced to mercury compound toxicity. [ You've had all the tests. No doubts there, right?] You spend $5,000+++ to get all fillings replaced. They were found to be of the most excellent quality. [You had structure, procedure and compounds tested and qualified] You still have mercury toxic symptoms after a year. You then discover that you live right next to a medical waste incinerator, a florescent light factory, a coal fired power plant or the stone in your area is releasing mercury compounds into the air and water and you don't like any of the natural chelating foods. You use sea salt and eat tuna and shell fish? California is 'black' on the mercury map. [Highest environmental levels from any source, natural and industrial] So is NY and PA. Here, the soil is chock full of radon. Ode -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
