After a good days slime tossing, it makes good rags for more slime. No need to wash it if washing things is tough to do.... and no need to seperate whites and colors. [Make it not stink and 'get going'. On a hot day, ya put it on wet and wear it dry. ]
"Worn" is my preference.
Worn is the "best" clothing.
I can wipe my soldering iron right on my pants leg and sop up a spill with my shirt tail...napkins? shop rags? what's that?....no problem...great time saver tool.
After a REALLY nasty day, just burn it. [Snip off the buttons first. Worn clothing is often missing some and it only takes a couple of minutes to sew one on.]
A new pair of expensive Redwing boots shred in a briar patch just as fast as an old pair of Wallyworld boots. [I know this for a fact]
If you're wearing the new boots, you're not likely to even go 'into' the briar patch.
Clothing makes the man?..new clothing makes the man do nothing.
It can take YEARS of pussy footing around to make new clothes even 'servicable' !
I bought a new pickup truck once. The first dent made it "useable". Till then, nothing but worry and very little work.
I bought em pre bent after that.

Hi, Linda,<<<<
Sounds like you are doing the right thing and are being very generous.
We visited a homeless shelter this summer. This is what we learned about their clothing needs:
Most of the homeless are men and they have drug, alcohol and mental problems (1/3 of them). They didn't have enough clothing. Newly donated items aren't washed unless they are very dirty. If the men can work, they get jobs as day laborers. They need clothing they can be comfortable in: jeans or khakis, underware, ball caps, socks and walking or tennis shoes. They get clean clothing once a week. So worn out clothing is better than no clothing.
Take care,
Cindy
