Respected Sol,
Where can we get the OED, or:
Can you obtain one for this Dutchee teacher of English?
We'll arrange the cost (rather beforehand) for purchase and sending; it would be THAT extension I am in want of, preparing to pick up writing books and things in English again, in two years .. after being pensioned off.
Thanks for your comment of GIFT,
I never knew a four letter word could raise so much sand!

According to the OED the word gift is both a noun and a verb, though according to examples given, it has fallen into disuse as a verb in modern english. though it may not be common today according to OED gifting a gift is probably still proper usage.

Webster's New International, second ed., still lists gift as a verb as well as a noun, though with slightly different meaning.

OED is my favorite dictionary because of the usage and spelling examples, going back hundreds of years, long before "american english", often going back to long before Columbus.

True.
I give up, go slaughter the language any way youse wantsta...I can`t win. The dumbing down of American wins. After all, a Louisiana guy said yesterday on TV that he "had saw" something. He "seen" it all right.
sheesh.
