Hmm, we are getting pretty far off topic here, but from a personal
experience a death certificate that lists pneumonia as cause of death
may not always be quite accurate, except literally, as pneumonia
developed as the person was already dying. My own mother died of COPD
and the resultand enlarged heart plus Binswanger's disease, and was in
organ failure on her last day, kidneys shut down, and so forth. Yet her
death certificate says she died of pneumonia. In the end most deaths
could probably be called heart failure or pneumonia. Your organs fail,
the lungs fill up, your heart stops, and you're dead, alright. What made
you sick enough for your kidneys to fail and heart to stop may never be
stated in the certificate.
But geez, folks if Pauling made it to 94, he did pretty damned good.
