Hi Lea Ann - the microwave watered plants all died within two weeks, for me. I used glass containers because less chance of any other contaminants, such as leaching from the plastic. Mike's suggestion of using glass pan for boiling was a good one, too. My cookware is glass. It also limits the variables if both waters are cooked in glass containers. I think I did use plastic in the microwave, but glass sounds a better plan. I used quart jars, with just two small plants I had plenty water for the two weeks I needed it. If you are going to use more plants, you might want to use a quart jar of each kind of water for each separate plant? Joy
