Hi, Leann,  I can't remember if this was a tooth that had a root canal.  I think it was.  I think that a root canal kills the root, but not sure about this either.  Somehow, I never think of all the things I would likke to know when I'm at the doctor's or dentist's office.  Thanks for your input. I don't have a lot of knowledge in this area but that tender pocket next to the dead tooth would concern me.  I find it hard to believe that a dead tooth is "ok" to remain in your mouth... seems to me like it would be a source for a "focal infection".
