I asked basically the same question a couple years ago for a friend who
has a liver transplant, and got no really conclusive answers.
However, from my own personal experience with CS, I do not believe it
affects the immune system at all in me and my husband, what it does is
kill microbes, thus lightening the load the immune system has to deal
with. This can look like a boost or improvement in the immune system.
And perhaps, it occurs to me, an immune system that is no longer
overwhelmed constantly can rebound and become stronger. Still I don't
see how this can be considered a direct effect, but it could impact
someone on immune suppressant drugs? I don't think so, but in life and
death matters like a possibility of transplant rejection I would not
care to be wrong................
If it helps, I believe my liver transplant friend uses CS in topical
ways only, which include misting the eyes, etc. mouthwash, but not
swallowing any. This ought to keep the amount in the
bloodstream/digestive system low enough so it can't be a problem. But
again, who would want to be wrong?

I have been approached by a person who has a heart
transplant, done nine years ago. I didn't realize
this, but the doctors give him a drug that represses
his immune system so that it will not attack or reject
his heart. He takes this drug regularly. He has been
struggling lately with fairly severe cold sores. He
contacted me about using CS to fight the cold sores,
but he is concerned that the CS will bolster his
immune system, which could cause his body to reject
his heart.
I told him I didn't know if it was safe to ingest CS,
as I believe CS does indeed bolster the immune system.
Does anyone have any ideas, not only about his cold
sores (I told him to take generous quantities of the
amino acid lysine, which I have found to be very
effective against herpes), but if there are any
specific ideas about heart transplant rejection
issues.
