Well, chanting "OM" can certainly take you in the right direction. But open
oneself to spiritual enlightment? That is a journey unto itself. :-)
By listening to it will have some effect because of exposure. But one has to
"DO." 
Will u ever be a pro ball player sitting in the stands? Oh you'll certainly
know all the stats, the game, even get caught up in the hype of it all. But
will you get up to bat? You need to practice so u can make the team. :-)

Is there any particular type chant or hum.   I know that Ohm  (not sure
how it's spelled) is said to open oneself for spiritual enlightment.  And
does one need to be the chantee to reap those benefits?  Can it occur
