I was equipping and studying to make penicillin when I ran into CS. I am thankful that project was short-circuited.

It was recurrent bronchitis and strep that made me look for alternatives to antibiotics and led me to CS. Once I started making it (back in the bad old days when many of us still used "a pinch of salt" as a starter), I went 3 1/2 years without catching a cold or any other respiratory ailment. Back then I didn't know about nebulizers or Gatorade and I was still using an uncontrolled 3-nines generator, but it still worked. What broke the streak? Probably getting lazy and not taking CS regularly enough. Either that or it was an unusually virulent whatever that finally got me. Hope that helps.
