" What caused the patient's death? Was it the original
flu virus, or was it the use of Aspirin to lower the flu
fever which then shutdown the patients own immune system response?
Obviously, the latter. So how did this cause the massive rapid
spread of the 1918 Flu?"
The Gazette is justly making a case against the use of Aspirin for the
treatment of fever, the bodies natural defense system. However,
attributing the spread to the invention of the telephone is preposterous. How
would one account for the Eskimos or remote, primitive Pacific Islands people
who when infected died and had no "Aspirin" or telephones. I have no love of
the Pharma companies predatory profiteering at the expense of human life but it
does seem that brother jonathan article is just as embellished with
hypothetical and inaccurate statements accounting for the spread of the virus.
1918 was a time of "heroic" medicine whereby physicians tried every possible
known remedy from bleeding to injecting typhoid, mustard plaster, strychnine,
mercuric chloride, creosote, digitalis and Quinine into patients, nothing
worked regardless of the outlandish recommendations. The use of Aspirin was
actually discouraged by one doctors belief that the body if alkaline would be
a poor vestibule for bacteria (which at the time was thought to be the primary
cause of the flu) and tried to turn the entire body alkaline with the use of
sodium bicarbonate and potassium citrate.
Tamiflu would be considered a heroic measure 88 years later in spite of
sciences advancement.
Homeopathics are mentioned......they used within their small community the
herbal drug gelsemium and still had a 1.05 percent mortality rate. Most of
their reporting was empirical and unverifiable. Their redeeming advice was to
avoid Aspirin which they considered poison. To this day, imho, they remain
vindicated for their wisdom.
The only truth is that human beings are at the mercy of mother nature.
Perhaps she knows when to do house cleaning, like she does in the forests with
fires and seasonal hurricanes, she knows when her resources are being
overburdened, overtaxed and abused. The most unfortunate reality is that
unlike people, she does not discriminate.
There are certain things happening today, uniquely similar to what occurred in
1918. The analogies are glaring. Namely, the suppression of information, lots
of useless disinformation, press and governmental censorship. We were at war
then, troop shortages were paramount, we are at war now. Matter of
fact.......there has never been a historical cycle when people have not engaged
in some form of warfare and aggression.
There is one war mankind may never win. The forces of Nature.
After epidemics survivors walk away licking their wounds thinking the will be
better prepared for the next round.

ms sharon,
thank you for this posting. this apparently is the basis for the report
that i had read. the first part of the report doesn't look familiar,
but the middle part, relating to how the info and recommendation of
using "aspirin" was right on.
someone had taken this report, and had apparently studied the
progression of the use of aspirin, and the spread of the disease, and
had studied the case history of doctors (mainly from n.y. state) that
had very successful teatments of this "disease" with their own patients.
the glaring fact was that each doctor had not used the vaccine in their
protocol.
this fact, suggests to me, that the money was more important to the
Pharma's than the well being than the american citizen. let us say
thank you to our protectors, the FDA.
does any one have the recollection of the extension of this report?????
thanks again, to all of us who care,
jim
