It occurs to me that whatever DNA, parasites, etc are in that dog are likely
to get passed to your dog and add to his load. (Worms and germs fresh as
can be). That alone, apart from blood typing, would be a huge burden.

If they would give him a mineral boost intravenously, maybe. But no
guarantees.

What do they say is wrong with him? I mean, there's a reason for the low
blood count, it wouldn't just happen.
It sounds as if they would be just treating the low blood count, but not the
reason for it.

Of course they have to earn a living, but . . . - your dog has likely had a
good life, and you might find alternative help for him anyway. Even now.

I don't know how to treat the blood count, but let's say Vit B or something
was the answer. You could buy the injection fluid and either administer by
syringe, or mix it with DMSO and let it absorb right through the skin.
Same, perhaps, with minerals. Or iron. You can buy iron injection fluid
from a farmers / feed store, I'm sure. They would sell the DMSO also.
Maybe you already have some. Like an injection without needles.

Hope someone knows the practical answer to why the dog's blood count might
be down, and what substance you should look for to administer yourself.

If the cause is, for instance, overwhelming germs (or maybe parasites),
maybe you could put together the simplest of all germkillers as described on
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/microelectricitygermkiller/ and just wire
up a 6 volt battery to treat him. You might already have a 6 v battery,
which is basically the only expenditure if you have any old electrical cords
in the house.

They told me my dog's red blood count is
so poor he should be comatose.( he nearly is)and they want to
give him a blood transfusion, then fluid therapy with ringers lactate
and prednisone for a number of months to the tune of $1,136.95
I love him very much but can't justify the expense on a $550.00 Pr.
month income especially when they say that the likeliness
of his survival is in question.
Do dogs have blood typing like humans? The reason I asked is they had a
dog there that they would use as a donor without any thought of blood
type.
