oh dave, i'm so sorry to read about your little dog...
don't give up on him, please !
not before you've found out what the real problem is.
i'm a member of a lot of animal health groups and will be happy to
help you get advice from all of them, once you find out what the
underlying problem is.
how old is your pooch? when did he first exhibit uncommon symptoms?
He's 12 years old but until this episode people thought he was a pup
He's been slowing down for a year or so and doesn't run flat out beside
my bicycle like he used to. He takes shortcuts and just generally goofs
off. I thought it was just age creeping up on him .
what were the symptoms?
He wouldn't get up and go outside and didn't seem to recognize anyone.
He stopped eating but would drink water.
what kind of diet is/was he on?
Purina Pro Plan, it was the only thing that didn't itch him to death.
I was giving him science diet but the itching and scratching was to severe.
Of course he also had the duty of licking all the dishes before they
went in the dish washer.
did he get any vaccinations around the time he exhibited first symptoms ?
No none sense he was a pup and he wouldn't have had them then If I had
known it was happening.
did anything else uncommon occur around that time?
Yes! We went on a vacation to Arkansas and Missouri and we were all
covered with ticks. I removed a half a dozen from him and about 30 from
me. My wife had five or six also.
After having 42 years of Lyme disease I didn't take the tick situation
in stride.
what kind of dog is he?
He is sharpie and Pit Bull
how is he now?
I gave him desiccated liver and thymus and he rallied remarkably
is he on any meds now? how are you treating him right now?
No
is he getting better/worse/same?
He is much better but the problem that got him in that condition hasn't
been addressed. This morning he actually ran about 50 feet but didn't
have the energy to do more.
i would so love to help you not give up on him. but need more info
from you first. the above is a good start and anything else you can
think of.
I'm not giving up as long as he and I are both breathing.
Dave
feel free to email me off list, if you wish.
angel
They told me my dog's red blood count is
so poor he should be comatose.( he nearly is)and they want to
give him a blood transfusion, then fluid therapy with ringers lactate
and prednisone for a number of months to the tune of $1,136.95
I love him very much but can't justify the expense on a $550.00 Pr.
month income especially when they say that the likeliness
of his survival is in question.
Do dogs have blood typing like humans? The reason I asked is they had a
dog there that they would use as a donor without any thought of blood
type.
