Usually, the layer of lint is too thick for a vacuum cleaner. It will just
plug it up very quickly. You probably need gloves that go partway up your
arms and take the lint out by hand. Once the main pile is gone, you can
vacuum the small stuff stuck in the corners.

You need long gloves for protection. There is something in the lint that
burns the skin. Whenever I cleaned old dryers, my arms would be covered in
painful rashes. Don't breath the airborne lint. It is very bad, so you need
to wear a mask to cover your mouth and nose. Hardware stores carry
inexpensive throwaway ones.

It's a dirty job, but someones gotta do it:)
