Microsoft executes these as soon as they are received, unless the user has disabled these functions. Many sites require them, and it is awkward to keep turning them on and off. So recipients will often leave them turned on. A virus could infect the html file as it was being sent. The virus would then activate as soon as it was received. No user action is needed. We are talking about very smart programmers looking for new ways to collect your bank account and credit card information. These are worth billions to criminals.
