You know, that actually does not work for me. It does give immediate relief, which is followed by equally immediate worsening of the reaction, due to (my guess) the heat release reaction when DMSO is mixed with water or EIS. What has helped me is to put aloe vera juice on the area where I'm going to put the DMSO/EIS, and let that dry before applying. Alternatively, applying emu oil or coconut oil after the DMSO/EIS helps (again this is my own experience, and YMMV).
