Dear MA,
Your thought to include alfalfa pellets in your horse's diet is a very good one.
I have included 1/2 gallon of alfalfa pellets in the diet of all of my thorobred horses....for years----with excellent results. Using pellets is especially useful for older horses (aged 8 and over) as many begin to have teeth alignment problems at this stage.....which really compromises their ability to properly crush oats properly. I had a 22 year old mare (pensioner) who was just going down, down, when I observed she was passing the majority of her oats.....whole. I had her teeth floated, but it did not correct the alignment sufficiently. After eliminating whole oats and switching to high protein pellets plus alfalfa pellets......she responded beautifully, gaining weight very quickly and slicking off like a big brown seal. At 29 she is still going strong....looks like a filly.
Sincerely, Brooks.

>Brooks -- how would you extrapolate the quantity for a average (1,000 lb.) horse -- do you know? Also, would a diet of alfalfa pellets accomplish the same thing, do you think? MA
