Morning V,

We all like to reinvent the wheel from time to time.

I would even bet you have done it a time of two.

Once I invented a new minnow bucked in a flash after seeing a plastic bag of water and minnows injected with oxygen.

I did in fact build one. When I did the patent search I found one was already patented just like my genius idea. The patent even contained the test data to prove how good it was.

In later years, I designed a new and special valve to use in a medical product I was building. I made thousands of them. Later I did a patent search and found someone had patented a valve identical to my design. I never determined a date comparison so I don't know who did it first. I know my valves found their way around the world. Sure would hate to think I did a major infringement.

Another product was brewing in my mind. A long Range Smoke detector. Luckily before I spent many hours and much money, I found there was one on the market already.

Only in recent years have I worked with some of these that have a range of 300 and 350 feet.

One of the highlights of my life was a trip to the patent office to do searching first hand.

Many have seen the world famous cartoon with the old man who had long hair, a beard, an old wrinkled suit and the brief case sitting under the patent office sign.

When I got to the patent office, ......... there the guy sit. He looked exactly like the cartoon character. That blew my mind.

It is still a lot of fun trying to reinvent the wheel and build a better one.

Some have never read the strong words, ........

"Forbids all others from making, selling, or using"
