unless you have MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) (as I do)  put one moth
ball in each sneaker overnight (or in a mud room type of environment); then
take out the moth ball, still leaving in a mud room type of environment and
the smell should be gone...

p.s.
Moth balls are also great to keep squirrels and field mice out of your attic
or house... LOL
(I learned the hard way...3 sets of flour later and all my corn meal half
eaten - they ate everything but the vodka - have no idea why? maybe because
it was in glass?) LOL
