I once read an article or essay about someone visiting a famous nutritionist, and being agog to find out what wonders he would produce for a meal. He brought in some strawberries from the garden and ate them. End of menu.
If you are having problems anyway, it might be advisable to do the purist thing and stick to separate food groups while you are not well. When you are better again, you can do some trials to see whether just veg or just fruit or mixed suits you better. How would you determine it, by pain or gas? It might be that the only result would be less energy to digest the next meal - but you might not be aware of that anyway. I've chosed to just have veg or fruit but not mixed to be on the safe side.
