I've done similar tests and found the same result. New coffee filter
papers always add 'something' to the CS. But once they've been used a
half dozen or so times they are OK. So keep re-using the same papers
over and over again til they are too clogged to use. They improve with
age. I always have a couple of layers of paper in the funnel. But I dont
run the whole batch through the filter anyway. I let the batch settle
and pour the top 90% straight into the storage jar. I just run the last
half inch or so through the papers.
Alternatively, store the dregs of the batch in a separate jar and use it
topically or in a gel. I think the extra fuzz gives it more punch for
external use. But I wouldn't drink it.

If you have a water test meter, run some of your distilled water
through one of your filters, measuring the conductance before and
after. When I did this test here are my results: distilled water
before filtering = .5 uS. After running the distilled water through an
unbleached (brown) paper coffee filter 5.0 uS. So the filter added 4.5
uS of 'something'. To my surprise, distilled water of .5 uS filtered
through a bleached (white)paper coffee filter came out 3.2 uS. So
contrary to common belief the bleached filter added less 'something'
than the unbleached one. Don't know what either 'something' is though.
I used Melitta cone paper filters.
That was fun!
I am more concerned about filtering out silver I went to the trouble
of putting in. Even if it is visible flakes of silver, it is just
.9999 pure silver after all and can't hurt anything, and it is just
possible such large silver particles might be useful in the stomach or
further down in the intestinal tract. Why would I filter out silver
and toss it? I don't filter, and don't worry about it either.

Well I always buy unbleached filters. Are they still unsafe?
