at St. George Church grounds in Niagara Falls
Serbs in Canada have a long-standing tradition of celebrating the
national holiday of our forefathers, VIDOVDAN, the last weekend in June.
It is time to pack-up the family and head out to the St. George Serbian
Orthodox Church grounds in Niagara Falls for this annual holiday of the
Serbs!
VIDOVDAN, an important date in our Serbian history will begin with the
Holy Liturgy on Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 9:00 A.M. in the St. George
Serbian Orthodox Church followed by the Vidovdan requiem.
All day Saturday June 28 there will be a soccer competition for the
Serbian Shield Society Trophy. At 6:00 P.M. Vespers will be celebrated
in the St. George Church.
SERBIAN DAY in Niagara is where many Serbian couples meet and later
marry. Saturday evening's "Dance Under the Stars" at the summer pavilion
with moonlight, stars, music and friends is just the perfect setting to
meet someone new.
SUNDAY, June 29, 2003
The Holy Liturgy begins at 10:00 A.M. in the St. George Church.
Activities begin at noon at the bavilion where Mico Petrovic will start
up the kolos. Free pony rides for children from noon to 5:00 P.M.-
courtesy of Western Union.
At precisely 2:00 P.M. the 58th Serbian Day in Canada program will
commerce at the summer pavilion. Guest speakers are: Ambassador James
Bissett, journalist Scott Taylor, Niagara Falls Mayor WayneThomson, MP
Jim Karygiannis and MPP Bart Maves .
In the folklore segment 7 ensembles will delight you with their
beautiful choreography. Throughout the weekend three candidates for the
Queen of Serbian Day in Canada will be approaching people for donations
for the poor Serbian children in Kosovo and Metohija: Ivana Tepavcevic,
Branka Rajisic and Katarina Lukic. Over the years thousands of dollars
have been sent to Serbia to help our people.
The 58th Serbian Day in Canada promises to be a weekend full of fun,
activity and entertainment. Plus enjoy specialties from the famous
