The SIMH Users' Guide, section A.3 Magnetic Tapes, says, "SIMH can read TPC-
format magnetic tape images." The sim_tape.c source has this changelog

...so it appears that TPC support has been present for several versions.
The manual says that it supports "E11" and "Pierce" formats as well.
