Can't recall now as it's been a long time since I worked with RSTS/e but isn't there a list option for backup, so you could try something like "backup/list mta0:*.*" and it should start listing the savesets out - which would give you the names too.

I was assuming it would autodetect the format. Next problem is figuring out what the backup set is named so I can restore the tape. I can't see anything in the tape headers that gives me a clue.
