My suggestion (sharing the NIC which is trivial on a Windows Host) let's
his test be performed without requiring any fancy behavior from the
switch.  The point where his boot test is failing is right around when the
simulated has its MAC address changed from the hardware MAC address to the
DECnet address.

This may be true and is a reasonable suggestion, but may illuminate a
solution.
