Mark, In JavaScript, the date object declaration uses 0 indexed months for the months argument, so new Date(1216,0,1) is actually January 1, 1216. Have a look at my note in the wiki at http://code.google.com/p/simile-widgets/wiki/Timeline_EventSourceJSON_jsDate.
