Hi Rixta,

Welcome to the Timeline and Simile Widgets projects!

Timeline uses Javascript, so it needs to be "served" to your browser. You can't
just open it in a browser. The Timeline source package includes a free, tiny
web server that can handle this task for you.

Since you're not a programmer, it may be a bit tricky--and unfortunately our
documentation is not entirely up to date.
We do have a number of non-programmers using Timeline for their projects, so it
is very doable. But you will need to persevere.

Suggestions:
1) Try it out by using the Timeline source download and following the readme
and other information.
See timeline_source.zip in
http://simile-widgets.googlecode.com/svn/timeline/trunk/ for the latest.
2) See if you have any programming help available to you.
3) You may also want to checkout the Simile Exhibit project. It is more of a
hosted solution.

Good luck,

Larry
