Hi Rixta, Welcome to the Timeline and Simile Widgets projects!
Timeline uses Javascript, so it needs to be "served" to your browser. You can't just open it in a browser. The Timeline source package includes a free, tiny web server that can handle this task for you. Since you're not a programmer, it may be a bit tricky--and unfortunately our documentation is not entirely up to date. We do have a number of non-programmers using Timeline for their projects, so it is very doable. But you will need to persevere. Suggestions: 1) Try it out by using the Timeline source download and following the readme and other information. See timeline_source.zip in http://simile-widgets.googlecode.com/svn/timeline/trunk/ for the latest. 2) See if you have any programming help available to you. 3) You may also want to checkout the Simile Exhibit project. It is more of a hosted solution. Good luck, Larry ________________________________ From: rixta <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: SIMILE Widgets <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, December 4, 2008 5:35:53 PM Subject: from html to a live timeline hi, i'm completely new to timeline and not a programmer at all. i've manadeg to do the basic timeline with the gadget but now i would need some extra finishing to do a real nice thing. i've seen the tutorial here http://simile.mit.edu/timeline/docs/create-timelines.html but what i really don't understand is: how do i pass from writing html to seein the timeline come alive in my browser? if i try to open the html file with firefox i oncly see the code, not the timeline. can you help me? thanks in advance r --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "SIMILE Widgets" group.
