The source (code bases) is actually at the simile-widgets project on 
Google Code, as it has been for the past several months. The API serving 
(public releases) is at simile.mit.edu for the time being, as it has 
been for the last few years. Google Code is not made to serve static JS 
APIs quickly.

Just for the time being. There's a plan under way.

Google is not interested in hosting the Simile APIs because it deems 
that the Simile APIs are not popular enough by Google's standards 
(million of requests per day).
