looking at the code, it appears that putting
ex:selection="desired_min,desired_max" into the slider facet tag is
supposed to work. Of course, that doesn't mean that it will :)

I'm using the numeric range facet as a sort of date picker - letting
users adjust the range of days of information to view, and would like
to load a large dataset, but default to a single year's worth of info
for initial display so the map isn't too overwhelming...
