given that you're selecting dates, you might want to try using the
calendar facet instead. the version in the trunk has been bug-fixed.
You can see a working example here:
http://trunk.simile-widgets.org/exhibit/examples/primaries/results.html
(this also shows a limitation: the primary dates were all in 2008, so
you have to laboriously click all the way back there to use the calendar
facet effectively. But for your case, involving recent news, that's not
a problem).

Megan,
I'd suggest trying to add this code right after you include exhibit-api.js
in your html file
<script>
Exhibit.SliderFacet._settingsSpecs["selection"] = { type: "float",
dimensions: 2 };
</script>
It's a bug in the slider facet and hopefully that workaround fixes it in
your case.

Thanks David,
I'll gladly be the guinea pig for this - and bummer - not working.
Still displays everything from the connected data file rather than
listening for the range provided there.

Thanks for the help, though, just one more thing I thought might help
speed up the load for users. I can't wait for v 3! :)

looking at the code, it appears that putting
ex:selection="desired_min,desired_max" into the slider facet tag is
supposed
to work. Of course, that doesn't mean that it will :)

Is there a means to set the slider range values upon load of an
Exhibit?
I'm using the numeric range facet as a sort of date picker - letting
users adjust the range of days of information to view, and would like
to load a large dataset, but default to a single year's worth of info
for initial display so the map isn't too overwhelming...
Thanks!
