Perhaps obvious, but I usually debug by binary search: delete the bottom
half of the file (aside from close tags) and see if it works. If yes,
add back another quarter. If no, remove half of what remains. And so
forth. Doesn't take long to find the offender.

The big problem with timeline and XML is when there is a problem, the
browsers "fail silently", and give you no clue as to what is wrong.
Therefore, you can work all day on something and then, bam, a blank
browser screen with no clue about went wrong.
What I do is run timeline to a place where it is working. Then if I
want to change anything I zip up the whole directory first. Then when
I start tinkering with it and mess it up, I just unzip my last
"baseline". I may zip up my development directory several times a day.
