I have spoken to you much
about the ego�s thought system. And to speak of it always implies that there is
another thought system which speaks the truth. And so I begin today our
discussion of the subject of truth.
You see, the ego uses logic quite well. And starting from certain suppositions, it weaves a thought system which is strong enough to cause you to believe that an entire world is real, when it is not real at all. The Holy Spirit, which speaks for the truth, uses logic just as well as does the ego. And the logic of the Holy Spirit also requires certain suppositions. I have told you that you are blessed, and simply do not know that you are. You are blessed by God, by me, by Creation Itself. But here in your illusion, you simply are not aware of that. Have you thought to yourself, �What does it mean to be blessed?� If I end these chapters with the words, �My blessings upon you all,� have you thought about what that means? TO BLESS MEANS TO GIVE TO ONE THE GIFT OF YOUR VISION OF THE TRUTH THAT HE IS A PERFECT SON OF GOD. And when I say �My blessings upon you,� I am simply reminding you that I give to you, in that instant and always, my vision, my certainty, that you are, in your perfection, in your beauty, the Son of God. And as God has blessed you, it is the same. God knows you only in the beauty of your perfection, of your guiltlessness. And all it takes for you to become aware of the fact that you are blessed is to open your willingness to becoming aware of that truth. Ah, but the problem lies herein. This world, as I have told you, is based upon the denial of truth itself. And I have told you that to deny is not to know. And what allows this world of illusion to SEEM real is the fact that, here in space and time, you do not, and cannot, know the truth of what you are. Can you within this world, within the thought system of the ego, become aware of that you are indeed, blessed? And the answer is � no, you cannot. Within that thought system, you cannot become aware of what you are. For it is based, literally, upon the belief that you do not know what you are, or upon the belief that you are something which you are not, and can never be. Do you see? And so there are some conditions to be met if you would come to understand the truth. And one is the realization that within the thought system of the ego you cannot learn directly of what you are. And so you must learn of what you are INDIRECTLY. That is one of the conditions of learning the truth of what you are. You cannot give something which you do not have. Even the ego understands that. So what if you could learn to bless your brother? What if you could learn to give to your brother the gift of your vision of his perfection as the Son of God? That would demand that you HAVE IT TO GIVE. And therefore that it is what you are. So we will approach your learning of the truth by helping you to realize that you will discover the truth of what you are as, and when, you give it away. You cannot give that truth which you do not have. Remember that truth. Whenever you give that which is false, that which speaks of darkness and death, you are giving what you BELIEVE you are. But that is not WHAT you are, and you cannot give it in truth. Yet you seem to give it, and then to believe it of yourself. Thus if you would teach another that you can die, you bring upon yourself, in the giving, the curse of your own death. And it cannot be otherwise. But the learning of truth has another even more important condition. He who would learn the truth about himself must do so as what I have called the happy learner. For God wants a happy learner. And the Holy Spirit wants a happy learner. Indeed, you cannot come to understand the truth of what you are lest it be from a place of happiness. �What does that mean?� you might ask. For if you are happy, it is so difficult to wish to change at all. But the happiness of which we speak is the rejoicing that shall come within you as you celebrate the fact that you DESIRE to change. As you look within, there is a simple question which you need to ask, in order to become a happy learner. And the question is so simple. It is this � �Am I at peace? Do I have what I would call the peace of God?� If you, even as an ego, would think about God, you do, in fact, believe that God has peace. For you can, even as an ego, imagine an all-knowing, all wise, all-powerful creator of the universe who would create a universe whose function would be to destroy his own peace? And the question is absurd enough that you might even laugh were you to say yes. We speak often of the peace of God. For indeed, God IS at peace. And so I admonish you, ask yourself, �Am I at peace?� And in order to answer the question, you must ask, �Is there anything, ANYTHING, that can threaten my peace?� For if there is, it is not, and cannot be, the peace of God. �If I lost my home, would I still be at peace? If all of my physical wealth were taken from me, would I still be at peace? If all of my love ones left my life, would I still be at peace? Can I be at peace as I walk the valley of the shadow of death?� You understand what I mean. And for all of you who yet walk this world of illusion, and have not learned the truth of what you are, �tis easy for you to realize that you are not at peace. But I have told you that you are blessed, and simply do not know it. So a condition of your learning is for you to simply consider that you are, indeed, blessed � to consider, if you will, the simple truth that GOD ACTUALLY DOES LOVE YOU. Then ask yourself if you are peace. And if your realization is that you are not, then simply say, �Then I wish to change my life." If you can come to an inkling that the peace of God CAN BE yours, are you not suddenly filled with the desire to change your being? If you can open to the possibility that you CAN know the peace of God, then what is there that you would not let go of in order to obtain it? If the treasure of all of Creation were in a field, would you not see everything you had to buy the field in order to obtain the treasure, which is the peace of God? This story I told two thousand years ago. And I speak its truth to you once again this day. So the happy learner is one who will open to the truth that he is blessed and loved by God, merely because of the nature of God Itself. The happy learner then realizes that change IS something which he desires, and which brings him cause for rejoicing. These are the conditions of the happy learner. Do you see? The happiness comes out of celebrating that you CAN change, that you CAN become peaceful in a world that seemed to speak only to you of misery and death. Rejoice that it is so! But if you must learn INDIRECTLY, and you will learn the truth of what you by giving it away, and if it becomes your desire to change, then what shall be your pathway as the happy learner? It shall be to realize that there is a vision, which is my gift to you, which is God�s gift to you, the vision which can be yours, but which you must give away in order to receive it. And thus with great happiness and rejoicing you can say, �I choose to follow the path which shall teach me to bless every brother, every sister who walks this earth with me." And to do that requires of you a decision, which I have called the decision for guiltlessness. I spoke to you of guilt in previous chapters. I told you that guilt, which arose from the belief in separation, is the cause of the world of illusion and all of your struggles. And I told you as well that EVERYTHING can be seen as Love, including the guilt which literally prods you, if you will, which carries you inexorably along the path which takes you back to God. So even the guilt can be seen as good, can be seen as Love. And yet I have told you that guilt must be released completely. Well, how are those notions compatible? Be aware that as long as you feel the guilt, as long as you feel the incompleteness that prods you to move along the pathway back to God, you may be assured that you still are imagining yourself to be an ego. It is easy to become trapped into thinking that guilt, which CAN be seen as Love, is something which you need. But that is not true at all. The real learning of truth, the real learning which the Holy Spirit shall bring to you, demands that guilt be released completely. What if you had an inkling of the peace of God, of the treasure lying hidden in the field, that which was worth everything? Then you would not need anything negative, like your guilt, to prod you along the path to truth. You would simply open spontaneously, and without effort, in response to the infinite Love you knew was about to become yours. So do not be confused
into thinking that you need the presence of guilt in your life. Guilt has
prompted your belief in this world of illusion. And while you yet believe in
this world, it guarantees that you shall find your way back to God. But the real
step which the Holy Spirit requests of you is to release guilt completely unto
your guiltlessness.
Rejoice! You are blessed by God. You are blessed by me. You are blessed by Creation. There is a vision of your perception which stands but awaiting your acceptance of its truth. And if you can realize that it IS there, but that you do not have it � which truth is obvious to you in a moment of contemplation � and if it is your desire to find it, you shall find yourself filled with a joy, not a fear, that leads you toward opening to its presence. Even then you cannot discover it directly here. You shall learn of it indirectly, as we have said. And so, once again, to decide for guiltlessness involves freeing your brother, your sister, freeing everyone, without exception, from the curse of your own guilt. As you realize that you are invulnerable, as you realize that your brother is invulnerable, you shall find yourself free of guilt. And thus I have told you to set your brother free of all guilt. Do this by simply telling him in every interaction that there is nothing that he has done, could do, will do, that could possibly harm you in any way. As you accept your own invulnerability, which tells you that your ARE the Son of God, and that you are free to choose every aspect of your existence, you shall automatically free your brother from any guilt he may feel from imagining that he might have caused anything in your life. For God is the only cause. And God is only Love. There is no cause at all which can cause unhappiness or grief, nothing but the imagination of the Son of God turned inward upon himself. And that must be in response to the initial guilt of which I have spoken now these past weeks. So as you set your brother free of any guilt you may request of him, you set him free of his own guilt. And you set him free of any guilt he shall demand of you. For you have set yourself free in the same moment. How can you actually do that? Can you, while you yet perceive your brother as a being separate from yourself � can you while you yet hold onto guilt, if you will, free your brother from being the cause of anything in your life? And the answer is � by definition, you cannot do it. For what gives life to guilt itself is the belief that your brother can harm you. And if you would hold onto that, you hold onto your own guilt. And thus it is not possible for you to decide for guiltlessness. What does that mean? Can you sit in the belief that you are alone and FIGURE OUT or DECIDE how to set your brother free from guilt? Indeed, it is not possible. Do you see? Than how can you do it at all? Now this a major step, if you would open yourself to the presence of truth � you realize that from within the thought system of the ego, which is based on the belief in separation, you CAN NOT figure out guiltlessness. So what do you do? YOU MUST RELEASE THE EGO�S THOUGHT SYSTEM. You must go beyond the awareness of your thoughts. For always your thoughts are perceptions, which lie within the domain of consciousness, the domain of the ego. You must release your tendency to wish to figure it out, to think about it, to study it long enough, if you will, until guiltlessness shall come upon you. You must pause, and listen. You must listen, WITHOUT THINKING, to the Voice which speaks of truth. When you do that, that
Voice shall become part of you. It is the Voice of the Holy Spirit, which speaks
with the greatest of logic, which speaks with perfect sense, so that one day you
may return to the awareness of your conscious thoughts, and say, �But of
course!�
You must first be still within your thoughts, and open to the awareness that comes out of your willingness to believe that you are blessed, that comes out of your awareness that you are not at peace, and that comes out of your willingness to celebrate the fact that you CAN open to and become the recipient of the peace of God. As you are still, there shall simply come an awareness, an awareness without definition, which shall bring into your experience the ability to bless your brothers. In your silence, a vision shall come upon you that, indeed, your brother has done nothing to you, would not, and can not, do anything to you. Thus your brother is free of all guilt. A vision shall come upon you that you, in your freedom and your invulnerability, are completely beyond harm, and have no reason to look outside yourself to blame any being for what you are. In that quiet awareness that lies beyond words, you shall feel yourself blending, first into a harmony, then into an indistinguishable Oneness with every brother who walks this earth with you. And all tendency to see yourself as separate and alone shall disappear into nothingness as fog before the morning sun. And in the absence of any sense of separation, in the awareness and celebration of the Oneness of all of Life, you shall begin to realize that deep, deep unshakable peace, which becomes your first true awareness of the truth of what you are, and becomes your first real experience of the peace of God.
