I just figured out my problem as your email arrived.
Yes I did do that.  I'm behind one of the cable/dsl internet routers and 
my server has an internal IP, and so do the clients that I'm connecting 
to it with.  I put in those internal IPs and it wasn't working.  Then I 
thought that I might have to put in the external IP that I have from my 
ISP since the SIMS is trying to validate my domain name with the client 
IPs listed.  I hadn't thought of this at first when I was setting it up 
but now it makes sense.
