What happens if you point a web browser at the address (notmylocaldomain.com without the www. of course.)? Or send the email in user@[do.tt.ed.ip] ?? Or do a traceroute on your machine to the hostname. Or even a ping. I bet the traceroute will point to your server, as will the ping.
