I have been running SIMS 1.8b8 for a long time, and it is as close to trouble-free as any software I've used except that it frequently refuses SMTP connections from my local network. I used to have a system monitor that executes an SMTP query every 25 minutes, and two to four times a day it failed to get a response.
Lately, the problem has been worsening, and now about 1/3 of the time that I try to send email Eudora gives me a "server not responding" error. Another 1/3 of the time it responds, but only after a delay of about 20 seconds. The rest of the time SIMS is its usual snappy self. I have 25 STMP receive channels enabled. The logs don't report any activity during the failures. The host machine is grossly overpowered for SIMS: a 7200/120 with 48mb RAM running only SIMS and IPNetRouter. It refuses POP connections occasionally as well, but much less frequently. Restarting the machine seems to have no effect. My mail volume is low -- probably around 1000 messages per day pass through this server. Any thoughts? Thanks... Ron -- Ron Risley || Fresh Baby Pictures Added Daily!
