I'd definitely be checking the health of the ethernet interface.
I've seen this problem before, but not with SIMS specifically. You don't
mention which version of Mac OS you're using on that machine, but I've seen
a few Mac OS 8 & 8.5 installations which had problems with ethernet
'deafness' or it could be like my 7300, which I had to get a PCI card as it
kept going deaf.
It's also possible that it's IP Netrouter at fault. I haven't seen
it personally, but I've read a few postings around the place about faults
with various IP Netrouter problems. Hope this helps.
