You'll note what it can't get relays for; it's not "this-machine.de",
it's "this-machine.de'" (note the trailing '). This e-mail address is
not RFC821- (or RFC2821-) compliant. While some MTAs _will_ parse an
address of the format you gave (and variations like <[[EMAIL PROTECTED]]>),
apparently (thank goodness!) SIMS does not.
I have added specific checks to rewrite rules in sendmail to look for
trailing quotes ('), brackets ( [ ] ) and other such improper formatting
so the message could be rejected with the text "[email address] is not
RFC821-compliant", rather than an error of the type you gave -- which
_seems_ to indicate a failure with DNS (actually, it does, because there's
no TLD with the name .de' ).
