Is it possible to change the router table of a backup mail server and
have those changes take effect on currently queued mail?

My problem is, I am running SIMS as a backup server. My ISP has now been
down for 36 hours, and they still don't have a repair ETA. My backup
server is rapidly filling with email that I need to get to.

So I connected my main SIMS server via a dialup, and changed the backup
mail server's router from "mail.domain.com.smtp" to "x.x.x.x.smtp" hoping
that it would start sending the queued email to the main SIMS machine now
running on a new, temp IP.

But so far, no mail has come thru, and when I looked at the logs, the
logs show it still trying to send to the old "mail.domain.com" address.

Once an email is queued, will it not be checked against the router again?
Is there some other way for me to extract the email on the backup server?
I would really like to be able to send it along to my main server, but if
I have to, I can live with just getting all the backed up mail dumped
into one mail box, and I will manually sort if from there (but since
there are a few hundred, and they go to dozens of different people, I
really want to avoid dumping all into one box if I can).

How do I get SIMS to try sending to the new location?
