ICMP= Internet Control Message Protocol. Common 'ping' uses the ICMP 
'echo' message type. There are other uses of the word 'ping' so some 
people choose to specify ICMP ping (as contrasted with Oracle's TNS 
ping, for example, which actually opens a real TCP connection)
