What, if anything, does the SIMS log say? You will probably need to set SIMS
logging to either 'low-level info' or 'all info' in order to get enough detail
to see what's going on.

The first thing to do (stock answer) is to upgrade SIMS to at least 1.8b8. I
don't know that it will solve your particular problem, but it might. In any
case, many people on the list have been running 1.8b8 for well over a year and
find it to be rock solid stable. You'll have to get it via FTP from
ftp.stalker.com, as there's no d/l link for it on the web site (it's still
technically a beta, despite its age and stability).
