I am hosting a domain for a non-profit organization. They are all using Windows 98 with Outlook Express 6.00. There is also one iBook running OS X and using the mail.app. I have set them up to send mail through my mail server using login name and password authentication. This was working fine for a while, but now they are experiencing some rejections indicating that the mail server does not relay. I have added some RBL entries recently that may extend the time it takes to accept the mail. Could that contribute to the problem?
Unfortunately this is not happening at one location only. The office location uses an Airport Base Station through Dial-up to access the internet. When the iBook goes home, it is connected to a Cable Modem. When first turned on, Mail.app seems to send and receive mail without trouble. After awhile of inactivity, Mail.app is unable to send mail with a "we don't relay message". If I quit Mail.app and relaunch, the mail will then get sent. At the office, they all share the same IP address through the dial-up. One person might be able to send mail without trouble, but someone else shortly after that would be denied. Their clients are configured to save the passwords for authentication. I had initially set the auth window to 30 seconds but have raised that to 5 minutes to see if the results change. Any advice would be appreciated. ********************* Paul Galati Systems Administrator Jack Rouse Associates [EMAIL PROTECTED] ********************* ############################################################# This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
