No it does not know where to store the mail - you have to tell it where with router entries. If your "main domain name" (as SIMS calls it) is "maindom.com" and mail comes in addressed to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] SIMS will assume that this is foreign mail, since the domains are not the main domain. If you do not have any router entries to handle it, I expect the mail will be rejected. These foreign aliasing router entries tell SIMS how to map foreign accounts to local ones: <*@firstdom.com> = *-1 <*@seconddom.com> = *-2 >But the POP3 server doesn't have access to that information? >[EMAIL PROTECTED] logs in to get his email, and the POP3 server >doesn't have any way of knowing whether is fred from firstdom.com or >fred from seconddom.com? Because all of the mailboxes live in one SIMS folder, they must have unique names - just as each of the root folders for your HTTP domains must be unique. An email address and a POP3 username do not need to have a 1:1 correspondence on any mail system. For example, customers of Sympatico (my ISP) are assigned usernames and passwords "at random". So your username could be "b1frhy23" and your password could be "rt4mw89" even though your email address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] In the case of SIMS, if the POP3 username was "b1frhy23", then that would also be the name of the mailbox file. All that would be needed to route mail to it correctly would be this entry: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> = b1frhy23 This is much more work to maintain than the prefix/suffix scheme in my last email. Please note that Sympatico does not run SIMS and all of the accounts named above are fictitious. -- Neil Neil Herber, RGD Corporate info at http://www.eton.ca/ Eton Systems, 15 Pinepoint Drive, Nepean, ON, Canada K2H 6B1 Tel: (613) 829-4668 ############################################################# This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
