It might be easier to use one of the relevant DNSBL's, but be
careful: some of the lists out there have pretty loose criteria for
adding addresses.
Which is why, for now, I've been adding addresses manually.

Can anyone recommend a good DNSBL for open proxies and such, that
might catch these, without collateral damage?

The other proxy lists have issues that concern me too greatly to use them. Notably, the monkeys.com lists are run by a certifiable lunatic.
