I tried the free version and couldn't ever seem to get the thing to do anything other than read mail. Brought it in fine, but when you went to reply or compose a new message and send it, it didn't ever seem to want to forward through SIMS.
Acted as though it would, but then you'd never get any response.
Not sure.
Maybe I misconfigured, though.

I just stumbled across this:

It appears to be a cross-platform, client-based webmail solution and the "lite" version is free. Does not need IMAP, works with POP3 and SMTP. Have not tried it myself, but it sounds like it might fit the bill for some folks. I would be interested in performance/usability reports.
