Bill,
So with the SIMS bug, does that mean my message will likely get through? Let me try to clarify in my mind what you are saying, in this particular instance, SIMS is saying this is a permanent delivery failure, when in reality it is a "delayed" delivery? Thanks.
Not that lucky.
What I mean is that some SBC machine is choking on figuring out whether the address exists because of an LDAP failure, and so is sending back a 4xx response code to SIMS instead of a 2xx response code. The 2xx response code would mean 'great, go ahead and send the message' while a 4xx code should always be seens as meaning " I can't accept that message right now, please try again later" and a 5xx code means "Do not send the message now and don't retry it ever again"
SIMS in some cases sees a 4xx code and treats it like a 5xx code. The message has not been sent and SIMS will not try to sent it again. The correct behavior would be to toss the message back in the quwue for a while and try toi send it again later, but SIMS isn't doing that. Oops.
