Hm, well, as someone who's managed to avoid a lot of spam somehow this far (probably more through obscurity ;), what I do know is that the text part of my e-mail address links are never, or at least virtually never, the address. I don't encode the text part, but it's not an address anyhow. e.g. "if you have a comment, <a href="mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]">let me know</a>" That kind of stuff.
