I guess you have not much choice here, people happen to use whatever
their distro brings in. Keeping the "treat warning as errors" behaviour
off for the future is an option, of course.

What I'm missing a bit is a description of what the automake authors
expect other developers to do. I mean, likely the developer bringing in
this warning had an idea on how people should fix their stuff.

This %-type wildcard is described on the GNU make web page as being
compatible with almost every other flavour of make, so a warning about
this is a bit surprising.

All the other warnings were no hassle and are fixed with the patches I
uploaded.
