For 40 years Howard Lyman was a cattle rancher in Montana. A personal
health crisis caused him to reconsider his lifestyle and way of farming.
He started doing research into Mad Cow disease (BSE) after the outbreak
of that disease in England several years ago. He shared some of his
findings on the Oprah Winfrey Show and was sued along with her by a
Texas cattlemen's association in the famous 'I'll never eat another
hamburger' case. All charges were subsequently dismissed by the courts.

Recently Howard had a 2 hour TV interview in which he answered such
questions as:

 - how widespread is the problem in North America?
 - what have the U.S. and Canadian governments done about animal feeding
practices and testing of slaughtered animals to ensure the meat supply
is safe?
 - can other animals raised for meat such as chicken, turkey, fish get
variants of the disease?
 - are variants of the disease (called CWD in wild animals) now present
in animals hunted for food like deer and elk?
 - can cats and dogs get a form of the disease through pet food?
 - can we get the human form of the disease (CJD) from things other than
meat such as dairy products like milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream or
other animal products we use?
 - are we mistaking CJD for other diseases like Alzheimer's?
