Not to be pedantic, but someone in a foreign country where they didn't
speak the language would have difficulty carrying out those tasks, yet
I'm pretty sure all the foreign speaking people in the world are
conscious ;P
Meh, I should have predicted that... here's another case where an intelligent being fails to predict the rather obvious actions of other intelligent beings :) - suffice it to say that I was taking the piss, and not making any attempt whatsoever to define necessary conditions for consciousness or self-direction. (And to repeat again, I think such a definition is quite impossible.)
