Perhaps some historians of science have analyzed earlier cases in
which leading journalists not only dismissed, but actively mocked,
potential significant inventions which later were realized. (There is
the standard futurist list of one-liners; but I'd like to see more
depth.)

It would be interesting to know whether the mockery truly slowed the
invention, and how the mockery was overcome, if at all.

These cases should be kept in context and so compared to kook science
which was mocked in its time (or not) and significant innovations
which were treated with respect even before they were realized.
