Hi All,
I a bit confused about the need for Timer C.

Section 17.1.1.2 of bis-09 says "Timer B controls transaction timeouts" (in this case INVITE client transaction).
And in bullet 11 of Section 16.6 of bis-09, it says that "In order to handle the case where an INVITE request never generates a final response, the TU uses a timer which is called timer C....".

But, it seems to me that Timer-B is already taking care of this in a way. Because, (taking Fig.5 INVITE client transaction as an example) if Timer B is fired, and no final responses were recd. before then, it would move to the "Terminated" state. So the client-transaction gets destroyed then.

So, how is the separate Timer C helping us? And why is it larger than 3-minutes?

Thanks & Regards,
Nirmalya
